brittany nicole ward . ----time, look where we are and what we've been through, baby .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THINGS FOR BRITTANY WARD AND her husband Jacen had never really been better. They were pretty perfect together. She could say without a moment’s hesitation that she loved Jacen with all of her heart, and that she would never want to be with anyone else but him. He was everything she had ever wanted, and everything she would ever need. And it wasn’t just things with Brit that were going good, but things with others around Grace. Her cousin Anna had never been happier since Hunter’s death. She was struggling to make it as a mother with her charming baby boy Hunter, whom she had nicknamed Michael shortly after he was home, finding that she didn’t like hearing Hunter’s name spoken all the time. Brit couldn’t even begin to imagine the pain her cousin was going through, but she was so glad to see her doing so much better. And she always had Tyler. Ty was good with kids, and Brit always felt good that there was someone around to help Anna out. Jace was quite enjoying his role as uncle, and she knew that he was wasting no time in spoiling the little guy. But the Allans and the Morgans weren’t the only ones that were excited about the new addition. The Trents had taken up having a new kid very enthusiastically. This was their brother’s child, after all. Kade and Jared were great uncles, and excited at having little Hunter Michael Junior in their lives. And Mykayla was just as excited. The baby was an uplift that everyone had needed in such a time of pain, and no one could deny the baby’s resemblance to his father. It was almost bittersweet, really.
BUT OF COURSE, IN THE good, there is always a little bad. Jacen had just found out that he was actually a half-brother to the Trents, and that had not gone over so well at first. Jacen was close to the Trent family, though, and eventually it had all gotten much better. Brit had to admit, though, that she had worried about him for a while. It seemed that the Trent family just kept on expanding these days. However, now Jacen’s parents were getting a divorce, and Brit could only remember that kind of thing in her life. Of course, Jacen was older now, and out of the house. At least he wouldn’t have to be split between the two as far as living went. Brit had hated never seeing her father. She hated her mother with a passion, and she absolutely despised her stepfather. When she had first come to town, they had made her come to the house at least once a month, sometimes twice, but after Brit had married Jacen, they had just stopped caring. She was very glad, too, because dealing with that part of her family was never easy, and every visit always ended in fights. But with all this, things could only be considered better for Brit. She was enjoying her life with Jacen and Hadley, and loving every minute of it. As good as thing were, though, Brit couldn’t help but want something more. She loved Jacen, and she loved his daughter as if she were her own, even though she really wasn’t. Still, Brit couldn’t help but want more for them. After all, things were good. Brit was going to take online classes next year, thanks to her father’s backing, and at the moment she was enjoying being home and taking care of Hadley and things around the house, though she never would have considered herself a domestic type woman. Brit had always considered teaching as a career, but she didn’t see that as an option anymore. She did have an idea of possibly owning her own diner or something, but she hadn’t really expressed that thought to anyone just yet, afraid that they might find it stupid. Her and Anna had talked about it, though, and Anna had seemed interested, which made Brit feel somewhat better about her possible career choice.
THAT DAY, BRIT HAD BEEN pretty busy. She had went to see Anna in the afternoon, and had ended up staying a while. Then she had went to visit her brother on the ranch, and had sat back watching as he did various chores around the barn. Eventually she had come home, though, and had simply relaxed and done just about nothing. Later on she had helped Jacen in the kitchen with dinner, and the three of them had eaten. Hadley played in the living room floor and watched TV a while with them before she was put to bed and Jace and Brit were left to themselves. She sat on the couch with him, her legs laying across his lap as she stretched out like she liked to. Jacen had found his own comfortable position. It was then that she suddenly had an urge to ask something that had been on her mind for a while at that point. She wasn’t sure what he would say or how he would react, but she was curious, and she wanted it bad enough to risk it. “Hey Jacen. Have you ever thought about having more kids?” It would probably seem random and unexpected, but it wasn’t really for Brit. She had been thinking about it for a while now, and Anna’s newborn had only made that thought more prominent in her mind. She wanted another child, but she had no idea if Jacen did or not.

jacen ward. life comes at you oh so fast. ___________________________________
-----There for awhile, Jacen could remember thinking that nothing could ever be good, or right again. It seemed that no matter what the people in this town did, something always had to go wrong. That sounded dramatic, but the time about a year or so ago had been nothing but one thing after another. Bad things happened to good people, and none of it had made any sense at all. It still didn’t make sense, but now it was easier to deal with. Hunter’s death had been the heart breaker, the one that got them all sunk down into a pit of depression. Before that, Jared and Mackenzie had split after a very short time of being married. Kade had a son, and Jocelyn was pregnant. The mine had exploded, leaving two men dead and Kade, Jacen, and Jared waiting for death to claim their lives as well. It had been one hit after another, leading some to do stupid things, like cheat on people they loved very much, or take drugs to cope wit it all. It had been hard, but most everyone had made it through in one piece. It seemed as though the dark cloud had lifted, and Grace was finally catching a bit of sunshine. Things were better again; things were going so insanely well that it was sometimes easy to forget all the hardships and misery that had been a part of daily life not too long ago. Jacen and Brit had gotten married, making him possibly the happiest man in the world. They were still so young, but they were blessed to already have everything that they ever wanted in life.
-----Pieces just started falling together after that. Jared and Mackenzie were back together with renewed vowels. Kade and Shaye were together, and Kade no longer relied on drugs to get him through the day. Jocelyn and Ava were healthy and happy for the most part. But, the biggest even thus far that had brought so much happiness into all of their lives was the birth of Anna Trent’s son, Hunter Michael. The baby boy was called Michael, or Mikey, and he was the spitting image of his father. Everyone had been ecstatic, but at the same time, there was a bittersweet feeling lingering in the air. Hunter wasn’t here to hold his son, nor would he ever be. He had died, but had lived long enough to leave them all this piece of him, and Michael was all the more precious because of that. It was another Trent child in the world, joining ranks with Evan and Ava, but it was found out not too long after Michael’s birth that there was another Trent in Grace. Jacen had walked in on his mother looking through old photos, most of them of her with Marion and Robert Trent. She was crying, and Jacen thought he had understood; Emilee had been best friends with Marion and Rob. She was just having a moment, but it had turned out to be so much more. Emilee had broken down, and let go of the secret that she had slept with Rob, and that he was really Jacen’s father, not John Ward as she had let people believe for nearly twenty years. Jacen had been stunned, as had the rest of Grace. He had drank for two days straight, but after sitting down with the Trents and talking about it, all was better. Jacen had been so close to the family already; him turning out to be an actual brother wasn’t too hard to accept.
-----His parents were divorcing, John refusing to stay with his wife after learning of her betrayal. The funny thing was that Marion had known all along, Emilee said. She had known, and she had excepted it for what it was. The kids were all so young that they couldn’t remember if Marion and Rob had fought, but it was probably better that way. Apart from all of that, Jacen’s life was amazing. Syren Trent, the oldest sibling and his new older sister, had come back to town after eight years, but that was all the more dramatic that it got. Jacen spent a lot of time with Jared and Kade, none of them knowing quite what to do now that they weren’t working. It was getting colder, so the men spent time sighting in their guns, and practicing shooting bow. Hunting season was just around the corner, and it was something that most men in Grace took very seriously. That day, however, Jacen had stayed home as Brit went out to visit with family. He and Hadley bundled up to head outside for a bit and play with the dog, and then the rest of the day was spent indoors, doing a lot of nothing. It was a lazy day, and it had remained that way when Brit had made it home in the evening. Dinner was the most they had to do, and after that it was all so simple, so comfortable. Hadley watched TV with them for a little while before it was time to put her to bed. Afterward, the couple made themselves comfortable on the couch, watching a show on TV. Brit’s legs laid across his lap, and Jacen was content to just sit there and sink back into the soft cushions. They didn’t speak, silence being just as easy as talking between them. This was why he loved this girl so much. Everything came easy, and she was, without a doubt, the most perfect girl for him in the world. He loved her so much that it was insane.
-----Yet, for loving her so, and knowing her like he did, he never saw this next one coming. “Hey Jacen, have you ever thought about having more kids?” He immediately turned his head, looking into his wife’s beautiful eyes, and seeing there that she was serious. He grinned a little, despite the contradicting thoughts that were whirling through his mind. ”I never thought about having any kids at all, Brit.” His tone was light and easy as he half joked, but his words were also true. Hadley was not a planned child; she had been a mistake. Granted, she was the best mistake of Jacen’s life, but he had been seventeen when Samantha had gotten pregnant. Then, he had been a single father at eighteen when Sam left. Thinking of having more children hadn’t crossed his mind. He knew that one day he’d want to have them with Brit, but it just hadn’t been on his mind like he could see now that it had been on hers. There was that gleam in her eyes, or something, that let him know it. ”Seriously, though, I haven’t thought about it much. I mean, we’re young. There’s no rush. You’ve been thinking about it…” he trailed off, knowing that he was right. ”You want a baby?”

brittany nicole ward . ----time, look where we are and what we've been through, baby .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BRIT DIDN’T THINK SHE LIKED what he had to say. ”I never thought about having any kids at all, Brit.” She frowned slightly. That was odd to her, and she didn’t like the tone he used either. She was completely serious, and he was using a rather light and joking tone. This wasn’t something that he should joke about, or even associate with joking. Because she was really serious, and she definitely wanted more children. Brit had thought about having a family since she was a little girl. She had set in her mind about how she wanted it. She had always been jealous of Kade and his family, which all his siblings and the loving home that he had. Her mother and father had only been together long enough to produce her and her brother, and then it was over. She had never had that loving and supportive environment. Granted, his family was full of drama, but Brit would have thrived in that. She would have loved the craziness and everything else. She had always known that she wanted something like that. She wanted that loving environment, and she wanted kids to go with it. She didn’t have a set number, and only two would have made her happy, but she knew that she wanted another kid, and as she listened to Jacen talk, she couldn’t be totally sure that she and him were on the same level at all. They could at least talk about this, though, right? She could always work on trying to convince him if he wasn’t completely into the idea of another kid.
BRIT KNEW THAT JACEN HAD never planned on having his first kid. He had planned for Sam to get pregnant and give him his daughter, but it was something that she knew he would never take back. He loved Hadley, as did she. She had to believe that another kid would make him just as happy as it would her. ”Seriously, though, I haven’t thought about it much. I mean, we’re young. There’s no rush.” That made her stomach knot even more, because the way it sounded, he didn’t want anything at this present time, and Brit did. She really, really did. And she couldn’t even explain what it was that had suddenly brought this on. For Brit it wasn’t so sudden, because she had been thinking about it, but she had just never brought it up. She knew that she did want it, though. “You’ve been thinking about it… You want a baby?” She nodded slowly as her means of reply. He had come to the conclusion, and he was right. She did want a baby, a baby between the two of them. Things were so great between them. How could she not want to move on just a little further in this life that they had created with each other. She knew there were hurdles and oppositions. I mean, they both were clearly not working, and Brit didn’t know when either of them would actually get a job, but she knew they could do it. If they both really wanted this, they would make it work. They could do it; she knew they could.
SHE WATCHED HIM FOR A second, then took a deep breath in an effort to stop the butterflies in her stomach. “I do, Jacen. I’ve always wanted a family, a big and slightly chaotic one. I never got to have that growing up.” She swung her legs off of his lap and sat up, leaning towards him. “But do you want more kids?” she asked, wanting to know if she was going to have to work on this a little. He had said that they were young, and that there was no rush. So did that mean that he wanted to wait? Or that he wasn’t worried about that kind of thing? She really hoped that he wanted to extend their family, and now, but she couldn’t be sure. So she waited to see what else he had to say on the matter.

jacen ward. live comes at you oh so fast. ___________________________________
-----There was no doubt in this world, or any other one, that Jacen loved Brit. She and Hadley were his everything, and he knew that their life together was going to be one that was well worth looking forward to. Their love had come on so quickly, and they had dated only a short time before getting engaged, and then married. They were moving fast; they already had a child, after all. Granted, Hadley was Jacen’s and not Brit’s, but Hadley was learning to speak and called Brit Mom. They had their own home and their own life; it seemed like so much to have so soon in life, so much to be thankful for. To be honest, it seemed like enough to Jacen. He had been raised very simply, and taught that having a little was just enough. Make due with what you have, Emilee had always said. Be happy with what you have. And, Jacen was happy with what he had. He was happy to have his daughter, and his wife, and his family. Things hadn’t always been easy, obviously, but they were starting to pan out now. However, Brit wanted more. Jacen knew it was okay to want more, maybe even good to want more than what you had and to not settle for anything less than what you wanted in life. It kept a person moving forward, but at the same time, he knew that sometimes a person could ask for too much. Another baby? Was that asking for too much, too soon? Brit obviously didn’t think so.
-----He could tell that she wasn’t pleased with what he had said. It wasn’t like he was trying to blow this off, but Jacen could tell that she wanted him to be serious instead of making light of the idea of having a child together. They had joked from time to time about what their children might be like, or what their lives might be like in the future. They had fun coming up with crazy scenarios, one of the better ones being on how to explain to ALL of these new children how they were related. Until presently, Hadley hadn’t been related to Evan, Ava, or Michael, but now she was. It was confusing for Jacen, and he could only imagine how to explain to his daughter how he had ended up being Hunter and Kade’s half brother to where she was a cousin to the other three children. That was the kind of talking they had done when it came to planning on kids, and that was all the further Jacen had gone on it. But, looking at Brit now, he knew that she had had this idea in her head for much longer. This wasn’t something that she was bringing up just to spout off about and then let it go; it was like she were asking him if they could. She already knew she wanted it, and she answered that question by a simple nod of her head.
-----She watched him, and he watched her. It was almost as though they were sizing each other up, trying to see what the other was thinking. Jacen didn’t have to try to read her for much longer, because she told him. “I do, Jacen. I’ve always wanted a family, a big and slightly chaotic one. I never got to have that growing up.” Jacen had been an only child in the Ward family, but he had spent so much time with the Trents that it was like he was a member of their family before anyone ever realized he actually was. He had his own chair at the table, his own place in the living room. Hell, Marion had given him his own bed and drawer space at one point. He had been a part of that large, chaotic family setting, and he had loved it. He couldn’t imagine growing up as an actual only child, and although Brit had a brother, she had never really had that kind of family. He understood her reasoning. Brit moved, positioning herself to where she was sitting up and leaning towards him. Jacen moved as well, turning to where he was facing her more. “But do you want more kids?” That was the question, wasn’t it? Everything about the way she was looking at him, the way she was speaking, and even her body language suggested that she wanted this right now. She wanted him to say yes; that much was clear. But, what did he want? Above everything else, Jacen knew that the answer to that question was to make Brit happy. He wanted everything with her. He slowly nodded his head, just as she had done. ”I do,” he said, reaching out and taking her left hand in his. His thumb moved over the wedding ban that she wore. ”I’ve always seen that for us, and if you’re ready for it now, I’ll be ready, too.” Because he was an amazing guy like that, of course.
