----This was unreal. Colby had managed to stay out of every single dramatic thing that had happened in last five years. None of it had anything to do with him and he certainly didn’t have any of his own problems going on. Until now. Though, he wasn’t sure he would exactly call It a problem. This whole thing started with Sydney Phillips. Sydney was the gorgeous cousin of Mackenzie Trent, his younger sister’s best friend. Sydney was his age, fun, and fearless of damn near anything. The girl had come to town for a brief visit a couple weeks long, a year or so back. Needless to say, Colby and her had become fairly good friends- maybe even a little more than that on certain occasions. But, Sydney had left town, and Colby went on with life, forgetting about her and the week or so they spent together quickly. He didn’t think that week would come back to him somewhere down the line. And boy, had it ever.
----Sydney showing up on his doorstep was the first surprise. The second surprise was her having a baby in her hip. And the third was when she told him that this baby was his. It was a very upfront and to the point confrontation, one that he certainly wasn’t ready for. Just by looking at the little girl in Sydney’s arms, he she wasn’t lying. He was also pretty sure she wouldn’t just make this up. There were so many questions he wanted to ask, but this was too much to take on in one sitting. After Sydney left that day, Colby was in an absolute daze. He had been a father for about eight months and had no clue. Part of him was mad at Syd for not telling him this as soon as she knew. But, he figured anger wouldn’t solve anything. The other part of him was happy, as stupid as that sounded. Colby was a kid person, and couldn’t necessarily be angry at something he had wanted. Just not necessarily in the circumstance it had come in.
----Now, as Colby stood in front of Mackenzie’s house, he waited for someone to answer the door. He and Sydney agreed to talk after he had some time to register what was going on. Since Mac’s place was where she was staying, it seemed like the best option. When Sydney finally answered the door, he could read some of the guilt that appeared on her face. Ignoring it, he showed a small smile, trying to knock out the awkwardness that lingered around them- if that were even slightly possible. Walking into the house, Colby glanced at Sydney out of the corner of his eye. “Sydney… you can stop acting like I’m going to yell at you or something.” He spoke softly, but meaningfully, getting tired of the eggshell act she was putting on around him. He wasn’t mad, and she had been tiptoeing around as if she were expecting him to be. “This is just surprising. Not bad.” He let out a deep breath, rubbing his face. “Why didn’t you tell me when you found out? Why now?” That was the biggest question he wanted an answer to.

----------------------------------------------------------
-----over the course of many years, Sydney Phillips had come to visit in Grace. Starting around the age five the girl was no stranger to the town. She knew most of everyone except for the few that would move here on the spur of the moment. Sydney knew the locals especially the one’s her cousin Mackenzie Trent hung about with. The girl was very lively, and would strike up a conversation no matter what was happening. Most of all she didn’t care what people thought of her, it was only her opinion that mattered. As she grew older, Sydney got interrupted by life and had to cut back in coming down to Grace for visits. Never the less she still came; Mackenzie and Sydney were very close. About a year ago Sydney had come to Grace for a few weeks, however she left with something she never thought would happen to her. She had become pregnant.
-----right away, she knew who the father was; there was only one person she had been with the entire time she had been in Grace. That was Colby Paxton, the man was something else. Everything she looked for in a man, only problem was they were nothing serious. Or so she thought. Sydney had the child, named her Kacee. The little girl was a mix of both her father, and herself. No one knew about the baby her mother did, and a few friends. Neither Mac nor Colby knew and for over a year she couldn’t tell them. Now she had come back and need to come clean to Colby about his child. She wasn’t sure how he would take the news, so she tried to reply the situation over and over in her mind. Each time didn’t end so well, so she stopped that. Just showing up with Kacee on her hip at his door, telling him that this was his daughter. The two didn’t talk very much or get through a lot of the things they needed to discuss. However, it was a relief that he finally knew about Kacee.
-----mackenzie had allowed Sydney and Kacee to stay with Jared, herself, and Wes for the time being while she’s in Grace. Now this time it was Colby that showed up at the door, there was guilt written all over her face. She felt horrible for not telling him about his own daughter. However his face showed a smile, as she let him enter the home. After he was inside she closed the door behind him, unsure of where this was going to go, awkward much? “Sydney… you can stop acting like I’m going to yell at you or something.” Which was strange, but she wanted him too, it would make her feel at least a little better. “This is just surprising. Not bad.” Giving him a questionable look, this wasn’t bad? How could it not be? Neither of them were looking for a serious relationship. Sydney lived however many miles away, while Colby lives here. How was this even going to get worked out? Just looking at her facial expression seeing all of these thoughts running through her head.
-----aSydney had put Kacee down for a nap, however she didn’t think the girl was doing much sleeping. Hearing from the baby monitor on the small end table. She was getting fussy and figured she would need to go up there and get her. It was a good thing that Mac, Jared, and Wes all went out for the evening doing god knows what. “Why didn’t you tell me when you found out? Why now?” There were a lot of reasons; none of them good enough and Sydney knew that. “We were nothing serious, how could I just drop something like that on a guy I knew for a few weeks… like ‘oh the way I’m going to have your child.’ Doesn’t sound quite right does it?” If she would have told him that, he probably thought she was lying at the time. “We live miles away from each other. I don’t even know how this is going to work.” Maybe she shouldn’t have told him? Sydney moved taking a seat on the couch sinking down on to the cushion. Frustrated she put a hand to her forehead running it down through her hair. This was going to be one hell of a night.
