-----O
f all the people that Kade Trent could pass on his way home from work, he would have never once imagined that one of them would be Shaye LeBlanc. That beautiful, dark haired girl had walked out of his life years ago, and he had never once thought that she would come back. Hell, why would she? She was a city girl that had a life far better than anything Grace could offer her. Shaye had come to the small, county town for one summer, and after that she hadn’t been back. Her reasons weren’t truly known, but the whole town had said it had had to have been that Trent boy and some dumb ass thing that he did. Which was mostly true. With their summer romance ended, Shaye had had nothing to look back on, or to come back to. So it made sense that Kade had had to do a double take while driving throw town yesterday. Seeing Shaye walk out of Talon’s had been like a déjà vu moment, only it had been reality as well. He had kept his truck moving, trying to shake that image and had himself convinced that he had been seeing things by the time he pulled into the Trent family house in the backwoods. It was there that his sister, Taryn, broke the news that Kade hadn’t just been seeing things, but Shaye was indeed back in town. She had bought a house and everything. Kade hadn’t said much, and left the house shortly after that to go to his own home that was up on the ridge of the Trent property. -----He had then spoken to Shaye through IM, which was odd, and seemed kind of cold. They hadn’t spoken in three years, but talking to her now was like taking a stroll down memory lane, something that Kade despised. Their relationship that summer had really been something, the real deal, but it had just ended. It ended, it was over, and hearts were broken on both sides. Now, she was back, and Kade didn’t know what to make of it. Typing to her on the computer had been awkward at the least, and then he had gone and agreed to meet her at her house. Apparently, she had something that they needed to talk about, and Kade didn’t like how that sounded at all. Usually when a woman said that she needed to talk to him about something, it never resulted in anything good. Mostly, it ended up with Kade getting drunk off his ass and causing trouble, but then again that was a norm for him. Why Kade had so willingly agreed to meet up with Shaye was something he hadn’t understood at first. When she had left like she had, he had sworn up and down that if she ever came back he’d have nothing to do with her. She was dead to him, and she would stay that way. Obviously, that hadn’t lasted. There was just something about that girl, but Kade refused to believe that after three years he could still have any kind of feelings for her. He had moved on, and there wasn’t a woman out there that could slow him down. -----Yet, he was creeping down County Road that evening. Kade had finished his shift at the coal mines, and then drove the half hour to get back to Grace. He usually drove slower, never knowing what kind of animal may lunge into the road in front of him, but today he took extra time. He wasn’t really dreading this meeting with Shaye; it was more like he was buying himself some time, trying to think. Kade had tried to figure out what it was that she needed to talk to him about and why it was so important that she couldn’t say it online. After coming up with a lot of stupid reasons, he had given up and hadn’t lost another minute of sleep over the matter. Now, as he was approaching the house Shaye had bought, he started wondering again. A sigh passed through his lips as he put his blinker on and made the turn into the short drive way. Putting the truck into park and switching the engine off, his hazel eyes looked over the house. The family that had previously lived there had moved, the husband getting offered a better job that he couldn’t afford to turn down. Kade had heard a few weeks ago that the house had been sold, but he didn’t pay attention to names, and if Shaye’s had been mentioned he hadn’t noticed. He opened the door and stepped out of the truck, letting the door close behind him as he started for the porch, his boots heavy on the wooden boards. Kade’s fist knocked against the door twice before he took a slight step back, looking around the porch. He tried not to think too much, tried not to let himself get too worked up over it all. All that anger from three years ago needed to stay suppressed, and that wicked Trent temper didn’t need to ruin this. -----She opened the door, causing Kade to look up. A smile came easily to his lips, and it was easy to see that she was still just as gorgeous as she had ever been. Maybe a little different, but in a good way. Kade had managed to change into clean clothes before leaving, but he was sure that his skin still had black dust clinging to it in places where it never seemed to want to come clean, and his boots were covered in it as well. ”Hey,” he offered, still so easily that it was almost like they had never fought, and she had never left. Kade’s confidence was amazing at any given time, and that didn’t change now. Sure, he was little apprehensive about what was going on, but this was Shaye LeBlanc. He had loved her once, and he could do his best to be civil just so long as she was civil to him. [/blockquote] [/blockquote]

shaye marie leblanc-------------------------------------------
----- it had been three years since she had last seen Kade Trent. In those years much had changed. During that summer, when she had come to Grace with her parents, Shaye had never thought she’d ‘fall in love’ which was cliché. But the girl had and still over time those feelings had not gone away completely. Shaye had other things in her life to focus on, rather than some fling she had during summer. There was a difference from how Shaye used to be at seventeen till now in her twenties. The girl had done a lot of growing up in such a small amount of time. Over summer, Shaye was a wild thing; she porously disobeyed her parents when they told her not to see Kade she didn’t listen. She always managed to sneak her way around them. The girl could hold her liquor and she spent many of her nights out. Which that caused many problems and the biggest one being that Kade and her had broken it off during one night out. The two were both drinking, Shaye probably a little more out of it than he was. Kade had been hanging around some girl Shaye barely knew, but she did know Kade ‘knew’ her very well. Jealous had taken over as she watched the two from acrossed the room. They were becoming a little too friendly and Shaye wouldn’t have that. She had known Kade was a flirt with basically anything that moved… but she thought things had changed. Guess old habits die hard.
----- which that led to how things took a turn for the worst, when Shaye had decided to end their relationship Kade wasn’t too happy. Causing a fight, and her reasoning for why they should end it. It was simple for Shaye, he wanted someone else which he had obviously displayed while thinking that no one was watching. Plus, there were her parents she was extremely close to them, but they had enough power over her and them demanding her to break up with Kade should’ve been enough for her to do it. But she never had until now. Once she had they went their own ways, Shaye had stayed for a few more days, but then Shaye had her family packed their things and left town. It was until being back in Chicago that Shaye found out she was pregnant. Of all things to happen to her. Shaye had only been with one man and that was Kade. You might’ve thought otherwise with the way she acted around men but she never slept with any of them. Kade had been her first. Finding out about the news she was pregnant she kept it from her parents fearing what might happen to her if they ever found out about such a thing. They would want to know the father of it of course, and the name Kade Trent wouldn’t sit to well with them. So Shaye turned to her best friend Milo Vega. He was five years older than she was they’d grown up together and basically attached at the hip. Milo was always there he had her back in everything. Sure he managed to get into some trouble but then again so did Shaye.
----- after everything Milo had taken responsibility for being the father of the baby. That coasted a relationship with his girlfriend when word got around. Both of their parents were pissed off but over time they got over it, looking at it in a good way. That they were actually going to be family. Shaye found that very annoying and wondered if she’d ever slip up and say Milo wasn’t the father, and Kade was… what would they do? They’d be crushed. When Evan was born he took Milo’s last name. Milo had been there with Shaye through everything which caused them growing closer and Shaye falling for him. Who would’ve thought? When Evan was first born, hell half the time Milo was a better parent than Shaye herself was. Shaye was young and Milo had changed a great deal for this. For the baby that wasn’t even his. And for that her love for him grew. Now the two were engaged, planning to get married soon. Shaye couldn’t be happier. There was just one thing standing in the way. That was Kade. Shaye knew she needed to tell him what had happened, that he had a three- year- old son. Coming back to Grace was something she had never planned to do much less live here. But she figured if Kade did want something to do with his son when she told him that he had all the right in the world too. She had kept Kade away from their son for three years it was the least she could do.
----- shaye and Evan were still settling down here. He seemed to love it, they had been out all day as Shaye showed Evan the small little town. They had run into a few people Shaye had known when she was here for that brief summer. They all seemed to adore Evan, and were surprised that she had a three year old son. That was mostly the time Kade had seen her, they had spoken over a short IM conversation it was weird to be speaking to him even over IM. Shaye told him, that they needed to talk which they really did. But she’d rather do it in person, so he was coming over and the time slowly inched by as she was waiting for his arrival. Shaye had made some dinner for Evan and herself and Evan was a very slow and picky eater so Shaye finished up and started cleaning up the dishes. It wasn’t before long Shaye heard a knock at the front door. She dried her hands off on the towel that was on the counter and walked into the living room opening up the front door seeing Kade standing right before her. Oh the memories that came rushing back all at once. He looked good, older, and yet still the same. She noticed how clean his clothes were compared to his skin. Not that, that even matter to her, she just wanted to talk to him. She watched the smile form on his lips as he spoke, “Hey” Shaye’s lips turned into a small smile. “Hi, uhm come in.” Opening the door a little wider as he stepped through the door way. Evan must have finished eating or was wondering who was at the door because the little boy’s chair scrapped against the wooden floor in the kitchen and could hear his foot steps. The house Shaye had bought was cute, but it was still old fashioned and you could basically hear everything though the whole house. Closing the front door she turned around seeing Evan peaking out the kitchen doorway wondering who this man was that was inside their house.
----- shaye didn’t say anything as she watched Kade walk over to him; she’d never known Kade to be mean or harsh towards a kid. If only he knew it was his. Kade said something that made Evan smile just by the goofy little grin on his face. “Evan, why don’t you go upstairs in you’re room. Have you finished eating?” Shaye asked looking down at the little boy making sure he was going to tell her the truth. Evan looked up at his mother nodding her head up and down with a smile on his face. “Okay, good, now go play upstairs…” Shaye said sweetly to the little boy and as he walked up the stairs and turned to go into his room. Kade had asked who he was. Shaye really wasn’t sure how to respond to that. “Well.. hm. He’s your son.” Sure it was kind of blunt and sudden but that was the truth. Now she was going to have deal with his reaction, “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”

hat’s in the past should stay in the past. There’s no point in dwelling on it because nothing you say or do is going to change one damn thing about it. That was Kade Trent’s way of thinking, and it was a way that he stuck to. It may not have been the best way for a person to go about dealing with things, but that was how Kade chose to do it. It was the only way he had been able to stand at his father’s funeral four years ago and not shed a tear, or hold his mother’s hand as she was slowly slipping away from him and be strong for her. Those were things that Kade hadn’t had the power to change, and rather than get all upset about it, he put on a strong face and put it behind him. He of course missed his parents, and had a lot of messy feelings left over because he hadn’t dealt with them properly to begin with, but he kept those all buried deep inside. That was kind of what he had done with everything he had ever felt for Shaye. Everyone here in this town had seen how the two had been together, and had known that they were in love. They had been young, but it had been true. When Shaye broke up with him, everyone had known that it was probably for a good reason, as Kade was not always the model boyfriend, but none had thought that he’d be hurt by it. He was just that guy that couldn’t be hurt, and didn’t give a damn about a lot of things. However, they had all been wrong. Kade had been hurt; he just hadn’t allowed anyone to see it. -----That night was still vivid in his mind, and flashes of it came and went quickly as he stood on Shaye’s porch now, looking at this ghost from his past come back to life. He had been drinking, but Shaye had had far more. She was off somewhere, Kade had lost track of her for a few minutes, and he had decided to catch up with Jocelyn. Jocey was a good friend of his, one that he had had something of a friends of benefits relationship with before he had met Shaye, and he would admit that he had been a little bit more than friendly with her that night. But, that was just how they were. He had had his arm around her, and she had been flirting. Kade knew how it had to look, and how it had looked had pissed Shaye right the hell off. She had broken things off with him that night without even giving him time to explain what it really was. Kade and Jocelyn were just friends, and he hadn’t wanted anyone but Shaye since his hazel eyes had first seen her here in Grace. For her to have such little trust in him was hurtful, and then to just throw their love away like it was nothing? Well, Kade had said little and let Shaye do whatever the hell she wanted too. She left a few days after that without a word to him, and Kade had thought that he was going to be able to bury everything and never have to look back on it again. That is, until she had showed up back in town. -----It was still the past, though, and he wasn’t going to let that get in the way of what happened now. So what if she had hurt him when no one else had been able to? And who cared if he was still actually pretty pissed at her for it? He was going to leave that behind them, and if anyone could do that it would be Kade Trent. He wore masks over his true feelings well, and could fool even those that had known him long enough to know how he was. Shaye might have gotten to him once upon a time, but Kade wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. “Hi. Come in.” This felt awkward, to say the least. Kade didn’t know what to do, or how she felt about him. Normally, he wouldn’t have hesitated to reach out and take her in a hug and maybe kiss her cheek. That’s how he was with most of his other female friends, but were he and Shaye even friends at this point? He was sure not speaking for three years answered that as a no, but he didn’t ponder on it too much. He kept that easy smile on his lips, and walked into the house. He didn’t think he had ever been inside of this one, and if he had he didn’t remember it. It was small, and old fashioned, but still a nice place all the same. That was the description that one could give for most of the houses in Grace. There were a few newer ones along the dirt roads, but they were mostly ones that had been around for a decade or two, or even more. -----It was then that Kade heard the sound a chair being pushed against the floor, turning his head to look toward the source of the sound. From what he guessed was the kitchen, a small boy appeared, peeking cautiously at this stranger that stood by the door. Kade was a bit surprised, not knowing that Shaye had a kid, but he didn’t let that trip him up. He did cast a glance back at her before taking a step toward the blond haired, blue eyed boy. ”Well, who is this peeking around the corner?” The boy smiled, and Kade walked up closer and crouched down to the child’s level. The kid wasn’t shy, and Kade liked that. Kids that were fussy and only wanted their mothers annoyed him. ”Hey, what’s this?” Kade pointed down to a place on the boy’s shirt, and when those blue eyes looked down, Kade just grinned wider. ”Got you, didn’t I?” That little boy just grinned, one that kind of looked like the one Kade wore on his lips. Huh. Kade didn’t really know what to do with children for long periods of time, but he could be good with them in short bursts. Before they got to crying or being brats about something. “Evan, why don’t you go upstairs in your room? Have you finished eating?” Kade stood then, looking back around at Shaye and then back to the boy, whose name was apparently Evan, as he nodded. “Okay, good, now go play upstairs.” Evan did as he was told, and Kade knew he liked him even more. Kids that listened were always a plus. Though, he wasn’t sure if it was going to matter if he liked him or not. It was Shaye’s child, and she apparently didn’t want Evan around when Kade was there. Or maybe she just didn’t want him to be there while they talked about whatever it was that she needed to talk to him about. -----After Evan was in his room, Kade turned to Shaye. ”Who’s the little guy?” he asked, still a smile on his face and speaking to her with ease. Obviously, it was her child, and his name was Evan. He looked to be about two or three, but Kade wasn’t good with guessing ages. Shaye looked like she wasn’t really sure how to answer Kade’s question, and Kade didn’t understand. What was so hard about… “Well…he’s your son. That‘s what I wanted to talk to you about.” The smile faded from Kade’s lips, his face going to blank. He’s my what? He thought, eyes going to where the child had disappeared upstairs, and then back to Shaye. Evan’s hair was Kade’s hair, and that grin had been like looking in a mirror. He had gotten Shaye’s eyes, but holy hell… She wouldn’t come here and tell him that if it weren’t the truth, but with such obvious looks even Kade was sure a DNA test wasn’t needed. Words took a little while for him to come up with, but he eventually got there. ”That’s my- our son?” he asked, maybe a pointless question but he was in shock and he needed clarification. Once she assured him it was, Kade went silent again, turning away from her and running a hand over his face. Hell, what was he going to do now? Then he got to thinking. That kid had to be three years old… Kade turned back to Shaye. ”Why am I just now hearing this? I’ve had a son for three years, and you just now think of telling me?” So now a little bit of anger was taking place of the shock, and that temper he had been trying to keep suppressed was slowly bubbling to the surface. She started talking, explaining. ”Does anyone else know, Shaye?” he interrupted. His gaze became hard, piercing. He knew how she was, and he thought he knew how this story was going to go. shaye marie leblanc-------------------------------------------
----- honestly Shaye didn’t even remember meeting Kade, she really hadn’t been all that interested at first, just because she knew she was only going to here for a short amount of time. There was really no point in getting involved with someone, plus she didn’t feel like having a fling because she always winds up getting too attached to the person. However he took no time in introducing himself to her. But at least he made a lasting impression on her. Shaye had somehow crashed a party that he obviously had been at. This was something she was used too, going around just joining in on whatever party there was. Plus, she had met a few people here that knew how to get in with out really anyone noticing. Not that anyone really noticed when they’re wasted. Shaye always did and got what she wanted no matter what. Maybe something took a while than others but she got her way eventually. She wasn’t you’re typical girl; she didn’t go around drooling on the first decent guy that managed to catch her attention. However that was all in her past, she wasn’t that type of person. She no longer just cared for her well being but put Evan and Milo in front of herself. She’d do anything for those two. Milo had done so much than what was really needed of him. That was probably why she loved him; he was not only her best friend, but the guy that always had her back. Yet even though that was so, why was Shaye feeling like she had when she was seventeen. Just the mere sight of Kade brought back so many feelings that she didn’t want. She couldn’t have them. Shaye was happily engaged to Milo, and the ring on her finger proved it. So why couldn’t she prove it to herself.
----- as Shaye stood a little ways from the door she watched Kade and Evan. It was weird, knowing what she knew and Kade having no idea what’s so ever. At least Evan was being good, and not afraid of Kade considering he was a stranger. Then again maybe that wasn’t a good thing he’s so trusting. Any random guy on the street could come and kidnap him. But Shaye was also in the room, so he figured it was probably alright. Which it was. It wasn’t that Shaye didn’t want the boy around Kade, in fact she was sure that was going to change in just a few moments but she hadn’t told Evan what she needed to tell Kade. He’s probably be very confused, Milo had always been a father to him, and now taking him away, saying to a child that he isn’t his father it’d probably be very confusing. So she figured she’d get telling Kade out of the way, and then see what would happen with Evan. Who knew if Kade would even what to be apart of his son’s life. On the other side if Kade took it well, then maybe Evan will also. At least that was her take on it. Evan looked more like Kade than he looked like her. Sure she had her blue eyes, but other than that… he was a spitting image of Kade. His, hair, facial features, plus it didn’t help that he was a boy. Not that Shaye would trade him for a girl; his likeness to Kade just came out more. Like his love for anything chocolate, cookies of course being his favorite. Shaye had a reminder everyday on what she missed the most, and that was Kade. However with not talking to him in three years she didn’t know what he was up too. Who knows maybe he could’ve been married with kids, or still his same old self that she had loved. And still did.
----- after telling Kade who Evan was, she was waiting for him to say something- anything. But nothing came out. He looked more shocked than anything, which was understandable. The smile acrossed his lips was long gone, and she really wasn’t sure what was going to happen. “That’s my- our son?” Listening to his question, Shaye gently nodded her head. “Yes, he’s our son.” Shaye said a bit more softly that he had, not wanting Evan to over hear what they were talking about. After answering his question, he turned away from her Shaye crossed her arms over her chest loosely keeping her mouth shut not wanting to overwhelm him or anything. Not that she hadn’t done that already. Before she knew it, Kade had turned around, “Why am I just now hearing this? I’ve had a son for three years, and you just now think of telling me?” Shaye shaking her head, hearing his loud voice, obvious was becoming angry with her. Which he should be. “Could you please, be pissed off at me quietly… I haven’t told him either.” Shaye narrowed her eyes looking up at him. She was in no way afraid of Kade’s temper. “Like I haven’t thought about this since the day I found out that I was pregnant with him? Come on Kade… there was no way I could tell you then. With my parents and everything… they fucking flipped on me that I was even pregnant…” But before she could even finish what she had to say, she was interrupted by him. . “Does anyone else know, Shaye?” She’d be lying if she said no, so there was no need for her to lie about something like that. Of course someone else knew.
----- shaye nodded her head, indicating that someone else knew about this. “Yeah, some one else does know…” Shaye said figuring that he might want further explanation, “Milo, my uh fiancé does, he told my parents and everyone that he was the father… But he’s not biologically…” So that might of came out in the wrong idea, it wasn’t Kade’s fault that he hadn’t been there to be a father for Evan considering he didn’t even know about him. Shaye really didn’t know what to say, either way this was going to end badly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you before now, I was just scared.” Which she was, she had no idea how Kade even felt about her. Much less throwing a kid into the mix of things. Shaye knew she had messed things up between them, but he had hurt her without even realizing it, obviously. Kade was stubborn which was something that she learned. Before she had left, they hadn’t spoken he didn’t even attempt to talk to her. The night before she had made it pretty clear that things with them were over, but that wasn’t what she had wanted at all. Not even close.

__________________________________________
-----W
hen Kade had first met Shaye, he had known that he wanted her. It was initially for her looks, but after just one evening with the girl he knew he wanted her much, much more than that. She was beautiful, and she was more than he could have ever thought a girl to be. He had met a lot of other great girls, but there had just been something about Shaye that made Kade want to get to know her for so much more than just a night or two. They were great together, and it seemed like they had fallen in love right away, it came that fast and that easy. And while all of this was amazing, one of Kade’s favorite parts about his relationship with Shaye that summer was knowing that it pissed her parents right the hell off. They hated Kade from the moment they had met him, pegging for exactly the trouble maker that he was. Kade knew he was that boy that parents warned their daughters about, and he thrived on that. Some guys would probably care what their girlfriend’s parents thought of him, but Kade wasn’t one of those guys. He enjoyed knowing that Shaye’s parents were cussing under their breath every time they saw Kade’s truck come up the drive way. Really, he knew that they weren’t bad people, and if they had given him a chance they would see that he wasn’t too bad himself. However, they hadn’t given him a chance, and had tried to make Shaye break up with him all summer long. -----They hadn’t been the ones to make that choice for her, though. Shaye had broken up with Kade all on her own, and Kade was sure that her parents had been thrilled. When he had asked the question of whether or not anyone else knew, he had expected her to say no. She would have no doubt hid this from her parents as well. And while Kade knew that would be how it went, it pissed him off that much more. Not only had she not told Evan who his father was, but she had cut Kade out of the picture completely. She had obviously had to admit that she was pregnant, but it seemed to cutting him out of the story all together had been too easy. Of course her parents had flipped when they had found out about it; most parents did. And if they would have known it was Kade’s child, they probably would have made her get rid of it. These thoughts would come to him later on. Right now, he was still in shock, and still mad as hell. Or getting there. When Shaye nodded her head that someone else did know, Kade was slightly surprised. Maybe he had jumped to conclusions, but her response said that he had been right. “Milo, my uh fiancé does, he told my parents and everyone that he was the father… But he’s not biologically.” Well no shit. Kade’s eyes narrowed, trying to grasp what she was telling him. Not only did everyone not know that Kade was a part of this kid’s life by being the father, but some prick was pretending to be the father. Kade knew that she wouldn’t have told her parents that he was the father, but he hadn’t gotten to think too much further into how she had covered for him. He would have rather not found out just then. -----It was just so much to try to take in. A lot was going through his mind, and his anger came and went like waves on the sand. It was like he really didn’t know how to be, but every time that anger washed back up, it was stronger. Shaye wouldn’t be afraid of it; she knew him too well even after all the time that had passed, but God, it was something to feel. There was an edge in his eyes, that dangerous one that was there from time to time and people learned to avoid. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before now, I was scared.” And that was what tipped the scales. ”Sorry?” he echoed, looking at her with anger and disbelief etched into the features of his face. ”You’re fucking sorry? You know what, don‘t be. Don‘t be sorry that you didn‘t tell me. Be sorry that you did.” He had heard what she had said about being pissed at her quietly, but his voice rose regardless. ”You hid the fact that he was my son for this long, and it would have been a hell of a lot better if you had just left it that way.” What you don’t know can’t hurt you, right? His voice was like a dagger, sharp and cutting. ”I’m willing to bet he doesn’t have my last name, and that my name appears no where on any of his records. You erased me from the picture, but now all of a sudden you get it in your head that you have to tell me? You should have told me then.” He wasn’t yelling, even if his voice had risen. It probably would have been better if he was yelling, though. ”But I guess you had less faith in me than I thought.” This was tacked on more quietly, and also more coldly. That’s what had hurt the most out of everything. Shaye was supposed to love him, and to know that he would never cheat. She was supposed to have that faith in him that he loved her enough not to, and she hadn’t. Not even her, the girl that had loved him so deeply, could do that. -----He just looked at her for a moment. How could she have possibly thought that this was okay? ”If you had even called then and just told me-” It would have made a difference. Kade could have understood why she had to do what she did. Right now, it was the fact that she had hid this from him that was hurting him and making him angry. He cut off what he was saying when he caught movement at the top of the stairs out of the corner of his eye. Evan had came from his room, and Kade’s eyes met his. They were Shaye’s blue eyes, but everything else about that face was Kade. No matter how angry Kade was at Shaye, he couldn’t take it out on the boy. It was almost scary, looking at that child and knowing it was his. He had created a life, and it was right there, looking at him. Evan flashed a little grin, and Kade felt it pull at his heart. He had to get out of there. ”You know what, I’m just going to go.” He couldn’t think clearly right now, and he didn’t want to argue in front of that child. He had been raised with better sense than that, and though he didn’t always show it, he knew what was right and wrong. None of this was Evan’s fault; he hadn’t had a choice. Shaye had done it, and right now Kade just wanted to get as far away from her as possible. Kade stepped towards the door, letting himself out but turned back to give a short wave to Evan, who waved back. The kid was cute, and Kade found himself liking him, but he couldn’t think of himself as Evan’s father. He went out the door without another word to Shaye, getting in his truck and not looking back.
